There are definitive quality and lasting properties in the various fragrance types available. The main differences between eau de parfum, eau de toilette, eau de cologne, and perfume or extrait de parfum is their concentration of fragrance oils, which determines how long the fragrance will last and how strong it will be. Here is a breakdown of the different types of fragrances:

1. Eau de Cologne: Eau de cologne has the lowest concentration of fragrance oils, typically ranging from 2-4%. It is usually a lighter, refreshing scent that is perfect for everyday wear. Eau de cologne typically lasts for around 2-3 hours.

2. Eau de Toilette: Eau de toilette has a slightly higher concentration of fragrance oils than eau de cologne, usually around 5-15%. It is a popular fragrance type for daytime wear and lasts for about 3-4 hours.

3. Eau de Parfum: Eau de parfum has a higher concentration of fragrance oils than eau de toilette, usually between 15-20%. It is a more intense and long-lasting fragrance that can last for up to 6-8 hours.

4. Perfume/Extrait de parfum: Perfume/Extrait de parfum has the highest concentration of fragrance oils, typically ranging from 20-40%. It is the most intense and long-lasting fragrance, and can last for up to 24 hours or more. Perfumes are often more expensive than other types of fragrances due to their higher concentration of fragrance oils.

All FIORI Fragrances have been developed using the extrait de parfum principle at ratios no lower than 30% of perfume oils.

It's important to note that the specific concentration of fragrance oils can vary between brands, so it's always a good idea to check the label to see the exact percentage of fragrance oils in a particular product. Additionally, the specific scent of a fragrance can also affect how long it lasts and how strong it is, regardless of its concentration.

If you want to check the quality of a really good generic fragrance and how they stack up next to each other simply do the "shake" test.

Take a bottle of perfume from 2 suppliers and shake them up at the same time and place next to each other and watch the bubbles rise to the top. A good perfume's bubbles will rise and dissipate in approximately 10 to 15 seconds. A cheap generic containing a very low concentration of perfume oils bubbles will rise and dissipate almost immediately.

So here is where you get to find out the real deal about generic fragrances. It is illegal to trade in South Africa without disclosing the ingredients in your product. In many cases you will find that the "cheapie fragrances" are sold to you with an "Inspired by" label and nothing else. You have a right to know what the ingredients are in the product since you may have an allergy to some of the ingredients so here you go:

Fragrances are created by combining different aromatic compounds to create a unique scent. These aromatic compounds can come from natural sources, like essential oils or plant extracts, or synthetic sources.

Fragrance Layering

The secret lies in layering your favourite fragrance by using different forms of the same fragrance such as the same fragrance soap, bath oil, shower gel, body lotion or cream and Eau de Toilette or Eau de Parfum. 

A simple way of making your fragrance last longer is to spray it over a good un-scented body lotion remembering never to rub or "crush" the delicate scent. Always apply to your pulse points.
